Zeilsheim


The Zeilsheim is also one of the district of Frankfurt. The total population of this district is 11,914 and total size of area of this district is 4.300 Km2. The postal code 65931 and area code is 069. The total density of this district is 2,771 /Km2.  Zeilsheim is western most district of Frankfurt am Main. The border of Zeilsheim is with kriftel in west and in north Liederback am Taunus and district of Unterliederbach in the northeast and Höchst in the east and Sindlingen in the southeast. The main street of this District is the Landesstrasse 3018 that lead through the L3016 from Kelkheim through Unterliederbach through Zeilsheim until Hofheim am Taunus. Zeilsheim is linked by bus to the observation tower in Bockenheim, to Griesheim and to Niederrrad as well as by regional bus lines to Schwalbach am Taunus und Hofheim. A settlement was done in Zeilsheim by Hoechst AG for their employes, that settlement was to provied the houses to their employees near factories. A similar Settlement was done in Unterliederbach. The main street of the settlement was called Neu-Zeilsheim. Nearly all of the intersecting streets are ordered alphabetically. Now today in the center lies a church erected in 1912. On the western borders stands the building of the Käthe-Kollwitz school erected in 1902.
This district was first founded as the independent town Ciolfesheim in 794. In 1917 it was part of city Höchst. In 1928 it was incorporated along with Höchst into Frankfurt Proper. Zeilsheim. The Zeilsheim become famous for its camp created after world war II in 1946. The Zeilsheim is visited by Zionist leader (Later Israeli Prime minister) and David Ben-Gurion and former American First lady Eleanor Roosevelt. A small monument is the part behind the city hall is dedicated to the memory of this community.
