Eine erste urkundliche Erwähnung Niederursels als Mühle und Hofgut erfolgte im Jahre 1132. 300 Jahre später (1437) wird Niederursel durch den königlichen Vogt Henne von Niederursel geteilt und an die Stadt Frankfurt und die Ritter von Kronberg verkauft. Zu dieser Zeit hat das Dorf 21 Einwohner, wobei oftmals nur die freien Bürger gezählt wurden. 1712 ist Niederursel noch immer geteiltes Dorf und die damaligen Herren des Ortes, Frankfurt und Solms, einigen sich auf die Hauptstraße (jetzt in Alt-Niederursel) als Trennlinie ihres Herrschaftsbereiches. Im Süden ist für Gesetz und Ordnung Solms zuständig, im Norden die freie Reichsstadt Frankfurt. 1806 fällt der Solms'sche Anteil von Niederursel an das Großherzogtum Hessen. Im Friedensvertrag vom 3. September 1866 this was ceded to Prussia. With the annexation of the Free City of Frankfurt by Prussia is also the Frankfurt Ursel's low share of Prussia. Both parts belong to the Prussian city of Frankfurt circle. In 1898, the two parts are low Ursel again merged into one municipality. 1910 Niederursel is incorporated to Frankfurt. Rapid increase in population of 2,200 inhabitants in 1960 to more than 16,000 residents in 1975 is primarily explained by belonging mostly to Niederursel newly built north-western city.

Niederursel lies at the Rosa Luxembourg-road (L3004), which leads from the node Miquelallee to Oberursel. Other main roads of the district are the Niederurseler highway, the Praunheimer path Hammarskjöldring and the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Ring. At the western edge of Lower Ursel runs the A5, which has not produced in this region, no exit. To the public transport Niederursel connected by lines U3, U8 and U9 the Frankfurt underground. The station Niederursel lies in the old center of the district.

Attractions
- The former "Frankfurt City Hall" in 1716, a baroque building with decorative half-timbering and lintel, and an inscription.
- The former "Solms-Rödelheimsche Hall" in the immediate vicinity (Niederursel was more than 600 years in two parts) from 1718, which was also built in the baroque style with rich decorative timber.
- Moreover, the so-called "obedience" with the still existing stocks by the foot of the former St. George's Chapel (on whose foundations the present Gustav Adolf church) to mention. Here were the criminals during the day chained to the laughing stock of the inhabitants of the night and again in the space behind the door "dark hole" spent.
- The Gustav Adolf church was built in 1927 by architect Martin Elsaesser (an employee of Ernst May), has an octagonal floor plan and was in the building industry and in planning for their construction revolutionary. The church was at that time poured concrete including the roof. The main parts of the old chapel of St. George (crucifix carved in wood and tapes from 1613) were integrated as a Romanesque door lintel and a trefoil window in the building. Even the grave stones in the outer wall (from 1669) have been preserved and can still be seen.
