Riederwald

The Riederwald is also one of the district of Frankfurt. The city Frankfurt is in the state of Hessen. The Riederwald has 3.660 Km2 total area and total population of this district is 4,824. The Density of this district is 1,318 Km2. The boundaries of this district are with Ostend, Fechen-heim, Born-heim, and with seck-bach.  It is one the smallest Frankfurt districts.

Ried means swampy flood plain. The old Main had here formed between the baffle slopes Röderberg, beech hanger, Seckbacher, Berger and Bornheimer Hang numerous creeks after the last ice age. After that their is and a forest which cleared by Franks in the fifth and sixth centuries. The initial reference we find with the data 1193 of  Riederwald. This was the property of royal and then owned by monasteries. In the 1847 the construction of railway to Hanau has begun, it cuts through the fields of the former Riederhöfe. In 1864 in the east of Rieder Forest ground water pumping system for water supply for the city of Frankfurt am main is founded and this is founded by Dr. Otto Volger.
