Praunheim-District-of-Frankfurt


The Praunheim is also District of Frankfurt Germany. It has total area 4.556 Km2 and total population 15, 730 and density 3,453 /Km2. It is located along the North bank of the river Nidda and composed of two settlements: to the East, old Praunheim, a typical Hessian village with a central commercial street and, to the west, the praunheim Settlement, one of the major public and private projects designed by Frankfurt’s housing director Ernst May. The settlement comprises 1500 residences, was built from 1926 through 1929, and was part of May’s internationally recognized housing effort.


History

Prehistory and Early History

The area around Praunheim has been inhabited since the Neolithic period, since about 6000 years ago. The reason is the Ebelfeld a loess, which allows very cheap agricultural income. So here numerous archeological findings have been backed up. 
Between Heddernheim Praunheim and the remains found at least ten early Roman military camps, which formed a strategic focus for the conquest of the Wetterau. 
The Roman city of Nida was on the border Praunheim. This archaeological site was identified at the building of the Roman Town (1927-1929) and later the northwestern city destroyed (1961-1973).

Middle Ages
The oldest mention of the village dates from 804, when Praunheim (Brumheim) is mentioned as the Niddagau located. In the High Middle Ages Praunheim counts to the court and later Office Bornheimer mountain. Praunheim was so royal estate. In the area of the church near the Nidda was a probably wasserumwehrter court. 1320 pledged King Louis IV the Bornheimer mountain to Ulrich II of Hanau, so Praunheim now halfway to the first rule Hanau, later to county of Hanau-Münzenberg belonged. The other half belonged to the Counts of Solms. For this dual process grew a condominium. Hanauer part of Praunheim was initially granted as a fief to the Lords of Praunheim. This family played a significant role in the city of Frankfurt. For example, the knight Wolfram von Praunheim is the first known mayor of Frankfurt. The castle and Velcro (since 1676) was Augustusburg direction Niederursel in the then swampy Steinbachtal. Archbishop of Mainz 1132 acquired the right of investiture of Praunheimer church. Parish Praunheim originally belonged Ginnheim, Rödelheim (until 1464), Hausen (until 1772), Heddernheim (until 1821) and Niederursel. Modern Times

Count Friedrich Magnus of Solms and Count Philip III. Hanau-Münzenberg 1545 the Reformation led by Lutheran doctrine in Praunheim. The proportion of Solms Praunheim belonged to the county of Solms-Rödelheim, Office Rödelheim. After the death of the last Count Hanauer, Johann Reinhard III., Whose share Praunheim inherited together with the county of Hanau-Münzenberg the Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel. This mixture was adjusted situation in 1816 when the Grand Duchy ceded his half of Praunheim to the electorate. After the administrative reform of the Electorate of Hesse in 1821, was divided into the frame Kurhessen in four provinces and 22 districts, Praunheim belonged to the district of Hanau. The electorate defeated an ally of Austria in 1866 in the Austro-Prussian War the Kingdom of Prussia. This subsequently annexed Kurhessen and thus Praunheim. From 1866 Praunheim now belonged to the Prussian province of Hesse-Nassau, the Region of Kassel and Hanau County, from 1886 to the Frankfurt district. On 1 Praunheim April 1910 was incorporated into the city of Frankfurt.
